Welcome to the Open FlightLinux Project
I would like to Welcome you to the Open FlightLinux Project. We will be adding more information as we create the community infrastructure.
The Open FlightLinux Project is a worldwide community program that promotes the concept of sustainable technology. Here you will find a community of users and developers, who all have the same goal in mind; to create and distribute technology that is not destroyed by time, but continues to be viable well into the future.
The research that originated the NASA FlightLinux project was completed in 2002, but was not released outside of NASA. Now, as we like to say, “It’s not just for rocket scientists anymore”. We are using the same philosophy as the NASA project to create FlightLinux in the open source domain.
OpenFlightLinux.org is a community of application developers committed to the evolution of a GNU Linux distribution based on three core concepts: superior engineering, next-generation design concepts, and open standards. We follow these core concepts for the distribution to be highly reliable, available (fault-tolerant), and easily maintained. The FlightLinux distribution provides an ideal platform for mission critical applications. FlightLinux is built from source code using best practices from GNU Linux and BSD. It can be customized as a development platform, a server, an embedded real-time system, an appliance, a spacecraft, a cluster, …even a desktop.
Mission Statement
“The Open FlightLinux Project is an open source paragon that strives to provide sustainable technology through superior engineering, next-generation design concepts, and open standards.”
